 About Art 4 Youth

Art4youth.JPEG

We are a collective of likeminded artists, teachers and professional art educators who urgently want to raise the current standards in art education for the benefit of young people – and your child plays a powerful role in creating this change.

The arts have officially been sidelined in the national curriculum, also in the English Baccalaureate (EBacc). This decision was made despite the rising contribution from creative industries to the UK economy (in the billions), and despite the strength of art education to help communicate complex concepts through an enquiry based approach to learning.

Parents and teachers have now been told that creative skills can be acquired elsewhere in a young person’s education – so we’re creating that space.

As part of our education program the students benefit from assembling an extensive portfolio suitable for further and higher education.

Private tuition and after-school art clubs are expensive, their waiting lists are long, and the teachers are not always skilled, practicing artists. Norfolk is particularly limited in its offering, which makes our mission a priority.

We offer not only affordable supplementary Fine Art Education during the most important stages of a child’s learning cycle: from age 7 to 16 years. All our courses and workshops are FREE for children and young people who live in financially disadvantaged circumstances. Everything we do is thoughtfully shaped around your child’s current full-time education to complement it – not complicate it.

We’re acting on ground-breaking guidance from the Warwick Report 2015 to take a “united and coherent approach that guarantees equal access for everyone to a rich cultural education and the opportunity to live a creative life”. For example, one of our core aims is to connect with local mainstream schools to improve Ofsted results by boosting their students’ performance in Art & Design GCSC exams.

We are a young non profit community school (Art 4 Youth CIC, company number 10836303) who are constantly seeking out new ways to minimise cost of our lessons and allow more children to join our classes; therefore any support from local patrons, parents and members of the community at this early stage is hugely appreciated.

Thank you.

Our students are encouraged to grow up with us. We want their creative, aesthetic and intellectual development to be stimulated regularly.

Unlike other after-school physical activities, we ensure students are calm and focused in our classroom – your child will be studying Fine Art to foster their interest in future careers and enhance higher education options.

Every lesson features art theory alongside technical skills like drawing, painting, pottery and sculpture. Every student is supplied with high quality materials and equipment. And every teacher at our school is a practicing local artist, with a talent for working with children and young people and has enhanced DBS disclosure.

Combined with the lack of art in the curriculum, funding cuts, a growing reliance on digital screens, and a home life with limited connection to creativity – our children are losing confidence in their own ability to simply draw. By the time they reach university age, collating a portfolio becomes a monstrous task with limited local support available. The result? Your child’s lack of practical experience or engagement with their creative skillset severely stunts their potential and choice in paths of high and further education.

Thinking visually and conceptually plays a huge part in modern industries. You may have a little architect-in-the-making at home. Perhaps your child is a future fashion guru or auto-engineer. They could even be designing the very same high-speed aircraft you fly in decades from today. All these career paths, plus thousands more, require the same thing – basic drawing skills.

The long-term assistance we offer includes assembling an extensive collection of your child’s work for pursuing further study and higher education applications. Looking locally, that sort of resource is rare.
