Programme Overview
Landscape
As part of our Observational Drawing course, the Landscape module immerses young artists in the art of capturing the natural world, both en plein air and from reference. Students develop fundamental skills in perspective — from one-point to three-point — alongside precise measuring and compositional techniques, including the use of viewfinders. Under the guidance of professional artists, they work with a rich variety of media, including graphite, charcoal, soft and oil pastels, watercolour, gouache, and acrylics. The module also covers colour theory, mixing, and neutralising, as well as the creation of depth, atmosphere, and tonal contrast through the careful study of light. This approach cultivates technical mastery, creative confidence, and a refined eye for observation, helping students build the foundations of classical and contemporary artistic practice.

Portraiture
Our Portraiture course combines traditional portrait and self-portrait studies, fostering both accuracy and expressive creativity. Students develop confidence and refine their observational skills while learning to capture the unique character and presence of their subjects. Under the guidance of professional artists, they explore the proportion and anatomy of the face and body, practice life drawing and painting from clothed models, and study colour theory with a focus on realistic skin tones. The course also develops three-dimensional drawing skills and introduces painting techniques using a variety of water-based media, including watercolour, gouache, and acrylics. Through this comprehensive approach, students cultivate technical mastery, a refined artistic eye, and the confidence to create compelling, lifelike portraits.

Still Life

This part of course offers a refined introduction to the classical traditions of fine art, where observation, precision, and creative expression meet. Under the guidance of professional artists, students are taught to see as artists do — recognising proportion, balance, form, and the subtle interplay of light and shadow. Through the disciplined study of mark making, tonal shading, and composition — from the harmony of the golden ratio to contemporary interpretations — they acquire the essential foundations of artistic excellence. Students work with a rich variety of professional media, including graphite, charcoal, soft and oil pastels, watercolour, gouache, and acrylics, developing both technical skill and aesthetic sensitivity. The course nurtures patience, focus, and confidence, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of careful observation and the art of seeing.
